Alternative Youth Center

About
The Alternative Youth Center was founded in 2022 within the framework of Planet One - a collaborative project of the Armenian Progressive Youth NGO with Greenpeace and Fryshuset. Alternative provides free space and an inclusive environment for adolescents and young adults between 15 and 35 years old interested in climate and environmental activism. The initiative is based on the makerspace culture’s philosophy of creating common physical places and providing tools for learning-by-doing. The offer consists of drop-in, a bookable space, a learning program and youth-driven projects.

Our Goals
To provide young people with a safe space and tools to learn, educate themselves, come together, and create youth initiatives.
To empower and inspire young people to join the global climate justice movement.
To support young people’s environmental initiatives, in order to amplify the positive impact on their community, society and peers.

What We Do
Climate Justice
We strive to make the voices of young people heard in the environmental movements, as well as to support the existing environmental youth groups.
Innovation
We learn and experiment with different things from technological inventions to tactics of environmental activism.
Advocacy
We empower young people to influence policymakers and hold those in power accountable.
Leadership
We help young people take leading roles in building a more fair and sustainable future.

Youth Initiative Support Fund
Through the Youth Initiative Support Fund, the 'Armenian Progressive Youth' NGO and the Alternative Youth Center aim to provide flexible and fast funding to young people aged 15 to 25, informal youth groups, and youth organizations to implement their initiatives.
Initiatives must be short-term, clearly defined, realistic, feasible, and deliver tangible results. Funding ranging from 40,000 to 200,000 AMD will be provided to youth initiatives, along with professional support and access to a fully equipped space for project implementation. Should the response be positive, the implementation period must be scheduled to begin at least two weeks after the funding application is submitted.
This year's initiative theme is climate and/or environmental protection. Funded initiatives should directly or indirectly contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and/or help people become more resilient and informed about the changing climate.
Initiatives may reflect topics such as transportation, energy, food, infrastructure, public policy, laws and legal issues, waste and resource management, deforestation prevention, animal rescue, changes in agricultural practices, and more.
